Two of Japan’s most interesting attractions are located in the Hiroshima area. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, located near the epicenter of the nuclear bomb dropped on the city, is dedicated to the promotion of world peace. A short distance away by train and ferry is Miyajima (which literally means “Shrine Island”), famous for its Itsukushima Jinja Shrine. The Shrine’s red torii gate appears to be floating in the sea during high tide.
