The Higashiyama Koen spreads across a wide area comprising of a zoo and a botanical garden. The zoo is a spacious and well-structured locale, and ranks as the largest zoo in the entire continent. It boasts of a huge collection of animals that include more than 125 species of mammals, numerous varieties of reptiles, and a fascinating collection of birds. A number of nocturnal animals are also housed here.
The most interesting part of the collection is probably the family of Koalas that have been transported from Australia.
